About
The sound
A For Alpha is a Bristol-based DJ, producer and the founder of Alpha’s Trip. Her approach to house, garage and techno draws on the underground dance records of the 1990s and early 2000s, first encountered through her mother’s interest in dance music. Years spent searching record shops inform sets that combine older discoveries with contemporary productions, moving between warm-up selections and more driving club music. She hosts a monthly show on SWU.FM and has released music through Hardline, Suckerpunch, fabric Records and her own imprint. Her productions include the HARD24 EP, the collaboration SUCKERPUNCH004 with Papa Nugs, Do You Get Me and Everyone Thinks. In the studio she uses an AKAI MPC-2000XL to sample records, with classic Roland hardware also informing her sound. Her Bandcamp catalogue includes an edit of Direct 2 Disc’s Morning, linking that interest in older house music to her own production practice.
