About

The sound

Anané is a Cape Verde-born singer, songwriter, producer and DJ whose career connects vocal house, disco and African dance music. Born in Praia on Santiago, she developed her musical practice in New York and became part of Louie Vega’s Elements of Life ensemble, performing “One Dream” at Super Bowl XLI in 2007. Her 2010 album Ananésworld brought together songs including “Bem Ma Mi” and “Plastic People,” later revisited in Chapters of Becoming Anané. DJing at New York’s SubMercer opened another side of her work, leading to the Anané’s Selection nights and collaborations with Vega through The Ritual. She founded NuLu Music in 2009 and NuLu Electronic in 2013 to release African-rooted house and electronic music. Take A Ride, produced by Two Soul Fusion, explores disco’s different forms while retaining the expressive vocals central to her records.
