About

The sound

Antal is the Amsterdam DJ and record collector Antal Heitlager, co-founder of Rush Hour. Established in 1997, the company combines a record shop, distribution business and label, connecting contemporary house and techno with reissues of music from earlier generations. That work runs alongside a broad approach to DJing: his selections move through house, techno, funk and disco, drawing on records from different countries rather than a single genre. Collecting and presenting music are closely linked in his practice, with crate-digging informing both the label catalogue and his sets. His compilation work includes Surinam Funk Force and Pantsula!, which explores South African electronic dance music from 1988 to 1990. Beyond Space And Time 002 and his selection from the Timeless Records archives extend that curatorial work. His mix archive and Rush Hour Choice playlist offer further routes into his musical interests.
