Arapu

About

The sound

Arapu is the Romanian DJ and producer Ionuț Arapu, originally from Slatina and later based in Bucharest. His early interest in electronic music led to DJing as a teenager, initially around breakbeat and drum and bass before a transition towards house and techno. Moving to Bucharest in 2005 helped develop his involvement in the Romanian club scene. His later sound centres on extended blends, bass movement and small rhythmic changes, with productions built from minimal arrangements and controlled groove. In 2015 he founded Liniar as an outlet for his own music and related artists. His catalogue includes First New Dance, Poem and Travel In, alongside the Tribal Nation album. Recorded sets with Priku provide another perspective on his selection and collaborative work. His public music channels connect that production catalogue with the long-form listening associated with his DJ practice.
