Armand Van Helden

About

The sound

Armand Van Helden is an American DJ and producer whose career connects hip-hop and freestyle influences with house music and remix production. Early DJ work in Boston led into recording for X-Mix and releases on labels including Nervous and Strictly Rhythm. During the 1990s, Witch Doktor and his remix of Tori Amos's Professional Widow brought wider attention to his sample-driven sound. London Records released albums including 2 Future 4 U and Killing Puritans, with You Don't Know Me featuring Duane Harden and Flowerz forming part of that period. His later catalogue includes My My My, I Want Your Soul and the Dizzee Rascal collaboration Bonkers. With A-Trak he formed Duck Sauce, a separate duo whose releases include Barbra Streisand. His original productions, mixes and reworks span different parts of dance music while retaining a connection to rhythmic sampling and the club-focused approach that shaped his early recordings.
