Bambounou

About

The sound

Bambounou is the Paris-born DJ and producer Jérémy Guindo de Montalembert. With Malian and Polish heritage, he emerged from the French electronic scene around the YounGunZ and ClekClekBoom collectives. His music draws on house and UK techno alongside the shifting rhythms of IDM: percussion and low-end movement are central, while unusual arrangements keep the groove changing shape. His early catalogue includes the albums Orbiting, released in 2012, and Centrum, released in 2015, on Modeselektor’s 50Weapons label. Subsequent work for AD93, formerly Whities, continued that exploration of rhythm. In 2021 he established BAMBE, giving his productions and collaborations a label of their own. Projects including Cascade, The Life of a Touring DJ and Levantarse sit alongside collaborative releases such as Final Conference with Bruce and C.R.U.S.H. with Priori. Across those records and his DJ sets, Bambounou moves between stripped-back club tracks, textured electronics and less predictable percussion patterns.
