Barry Can’t Swim

About

The sound

Barry Can’t Swim is an Edinburgh-born electronic producer whose music connects melodic songwriting with the movement of club tracks. His catalogue brings together melody, rhythmic samples and vocal fragments, with records that work as listening music as well as dancefloor material. Releases such as Blackpool Boulevard and More Content preceded his first full-length album. When Will We Land?, released through Ninja Tune in October 2023, introduced that approach across a complete album. He followed it with Loner in 2025, developing a wider range of moods while keeping rhythm at the centre. Its tracks include Different, The Person You’d Like To Be and Still Riding, alongside the disco influence of Chosen and the more reflective Cars Pass By Like Childhood Sweethearts. The contrast between those quieter passages and more direct club material is a recurring part of his catalogue. Standalone releases such as Kimbara sit alongside the albums, offering further examples of his sample-led production and attention to melody.
