Bassjackers

About

The sound

Bassjackers is the Dutch electronic duo of Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst. The project began in 2007 with a division of roles: Flohr as the performing DJ and van Hilst concentrating on production. Their bass-heavy records became associated with big-room house, combining direct melodic hooks with the impact of large club and festival systems. Their catalogue includes Mush, Mush, Hey! and Grid, alongside Crackin, which received a Martin Garrix edit. Collaborations have also been central to the project, including Duckface with Kenneth G and Derp with MAKJ. Those releases reflect a production style built around strong contrasts, rhythm and a clear payoff in the arrangement. Van Hilst has also discussed the studio process behind the music, from early work with FastTracker to using FL Studio. The duo’s Signed by Bassjackers series shares production techniques and project material, offering a practical view of how the records are assembled.
