About

The sound

BIIA is a Portuguese DJ and producer whose music brings techno, acid and electro into an energetic, exploratory sound. Her own voice is part of the production, adding lyrics and vocal details that give the tracks an individual character. In discussing Human Skin, she described a creative process shaped by emotional connection, intuition and the freedom to move between darker, melodic material and more playful rhythms. Self-releasing the project allowed her to make decisions about both its sound and visual presentation. Her listening background includes Detroit artists Jeff Mills, Robert Hood and Carl Craig, alongside Dave Clarke and Fatboy Slim, while time spent in Berlin informed her approach to club music. Her recordings include Human Skin, Letters From Hell and Die For Youth. As a selector, she adapts the pacing of a set to the room, crowd and surrounding lineup, treating performance as an exchange with the audience rather than a fixed sequence.
