Broken Hill is the electronic project of Kurtis McNevin, a Southern California-based DJ, producer and audio engineer. His sound combines house, techno and indie dance through intricate rhythms, lush melodies and syncopated basslines, with digital and analogue tools used to give each track a tactile sense of movement. McNevin’s interest in dance music began early through his father, and that foundation developed into a studio practice as both an artist and a professional engineer. He serves as lead audio engineer at The Music Company in Pacific Beach, California, where daily work with other musicians strengthens the technical detail of his own productions. Broken Hill’s catalogue includes the Change Your Mind EP on Disco Halal, the Another Freak EP on Monaberry, and releases or remixes associated with Diynamic, Maccabi House, Factory 93, Insomniac, Glasgow Underground and other respected labels. Support from Solomun, Adam Ten, Max Styler, Super Flu, Four Tet and BLOND:ISH reflects the project’s growing reach. Broken Hill’s sets and recordings balance focused low-end energy with melodic atmosphere, giving the music an emotional but precise character. The project’s Australian-rooted name and Southern California base are part of its identity, while the sound remains directed toward a broad international dance audience.
