About
The sound
Bun Xapa is a South African producer whose Afro house carries the rhythmic influence of an earlier interest in hip-hop. He began making music in 2015 and later moved towards house, retaining a close attention to drums and the arrangement of a track. His 2021 album Amasukwini pays tribute to his ancestral clan, placing that personal musical heritage at the centre of the project. Subsequent releases include Kibe with Idd Aziz, Amsterdam and Hate It or Love It. On Chaak, released through Higher Ground in 2025, he collaborated with Emmanuel Jal; the instrumental Bun Is Bun! followed on My Other Side of the Moon. He describes melody, chord changes and the movement of percussion as ways to tell a story without lyrics, connecting his South African roots with contemporary electronic production.
