About

The sound

Carl Cox is a British DJ, producer and label founder whose career developed alongside the country's acid house and rave scenes. He began working as a mobile DJ after buying turntables at fifteen, first playing disco before moving into rare groove, hip-hop and electro. Hearing Chicago house records opened another direction, and his use of three turntables became a feature of his performances during the late 1980s. His debut single I Want You appeared on Perfecto in 1991, while the F.A.C.T. mix in 1995 documented his growing connection to techno. Studio recordings include The Second Sign in 2005 and All Roads Lead to the Dancefloor in 2011. Cox founded Intec Records in 1999 and relaunched the imprint as Intec Digital in 2010, creating a continuing outlet for techno releases and the Pure Intec mix series. In 2018 he established Awesome Soundwave with Christopher Coe, focusing on electronic musicians who perform their work live. His 2022 album Electronic Generations, released through BMG, includes How It Makes You Feel and Speed Trials on Acid. DJ performance, studio production and support for live electronic artists remain connected parts of his career.
