Cassius

About

The sound

Cassius is the French electronic project founded by Philippe Zdar and Hubert ‘Boombass’ Blanc-Francard. Their partnership helped shape French touch, pairing house rhythms with the sample-led approach heard on Cassius 1999 and Feeling For You. The debut album 1999 introduced that sound to a wider audience, followed by a catalogue that includes I Love U So. The 2016 album Ibifornia expanded the project through collaborations including Pharrell Williams. After Zdar’s death in 2019, Boombass continued the Cassius story, returning to performances under the shared name while carrying its history forward. Before Cassius, Zdar and Blanc-Francard produced for MC Solaar and recorded together as La Funk Mob on Mo’ Wax. The Cassius catalogue developed through Au Rêve in 2002 and 15 Again in 2006, before the collaborative scope of Ibifornia and the 2019 album Dreems.
