César Almena

About

The sound

César Almena is a Madrid techno DJ, producer and organiser closely associated with CODE at Fabrik. His long partnership with Nuke helped build a regular platform for techno in the city. Before starting CODE, Almena had already spent several years DJing; organising parties gave him a way to develop opportunities beyond the existing circuit. His work also includes Code Records, Cultura Techno radio and the Ekho club project. In the studio, he places particular emphasis on the relationship between kick drum, bass and groove. His selection follows the energy and movement of a record rather than a rigid stylistic boundary, an approach reflected in the extended sets preserved on his SoundCloud archive. He describes his partnership with Nuke as a balance between instinct and analysis: Nuke tends to follow feeling, while Almena takes a more analytical approach. They consult each other on important decisions.
