About
The sound
Channel Tres is Sheldon Young, a Compton-raised songwriter, producer, rapper and DJ. His sound brings Detroit techno and Chicago house into contact with West Coast rap, pairing a low, spoken vocal style with electronic grooves. Controller helped establish that musical identity. His debut album Head Rush arrived on RCA Records in June 2024. Across seventeen tracks, it brought together collaborators including Thundercat, Teezo Touchdown, Ravyn Lenae, Estelle and Toro y Moi. The same period included Drip Sweat with KAYTRANADA, extending the connections between his vocal work, songwriting and club productions. Before Head Rush, the EP i can’t go outside included contributions from Tyler, The Creator and Tinashe. His 2022 single 6AM combined Motown melody with French Touch accents, carrying his Compton perspective into a record about dancing through the early morning.
