About

The sound

Cincity is a Dutch DJ and producer whose house and techno draw on African rhythms and her background in dance. She grew up listening to Congolese rumba, soul and reggae, later discovering house and electro. Making mixtapes for her dance classes led naturally towards DJing and then production. Her KiJiJi EP on Floyd Lavine’s Afrikan Tales brought together collaborators including Torque MuziQ and B’utiza. The release also included “Lately” with Jody Vivian, with remixes by Enoo Napa and William Djoko. Collaboration and the relationship between rhythm, melody and movement remain central to her music. Her wider catalogue includes “Voulez Vous,” “Play It Back,” “Ego” and “Ko-Kolo.” Beyond records, she has developed the Agartha, Cloud 8 and Tribes projects, creating settings for the range of sounds heard in her own DJ sets.
