About
The sound
Courtesy is the musical name of Danish artist and DJ Najaaraq Vestbirk. Her practice connects electronic music with installation, photography, video and performance, exploring how people relate to one another through shared listening and dance. Alongside DJ sets, she develops compositions and collaborative recordings that extend those ideas beyond the club. Her 2023 album fra eufori brought together collaborators including Erika de Casier, pianist August Rosenbaum, Lyra Pramuk and Merely. Its recordings revisit songs such as You’re Not Alone and Saltwater through new vocal and instrumental interpretations. In January 2024 she released Let the Music Hypnotise You with Klō, contributing synth, vocal and drum production alongside additional production from Tiarnan McMorrow. The nine-track intimate yell arrived in October 2024. Written, produced and recorded at her Studio Vestbirk in Berlin, it includes work with Klō, Sophie Joe, Lucia Odoom and Ben Leo. Tiarnan McMorrow contributed drum production and mixing, while its collage artwork connects the accompanying video with her collection of 1990s and 2000s dance CDs.
