About

The sound

Dax J is a London-born DJ and producer based in Germany, and the founder of Monnom Black. His production combines detailed sound design with forceful club rhythms, while his DJ work includes extended closing sets at Berghain and Bassiani. His debut album Shades of Black appeared on his own label in 2015. He followed it with Offending Public Morality in 2018 and Utopian Surrealism in 2021, before Soul Enforcer in 2022 and the Orwell-referencing War Is Peace, Freedom Is Slavery, Ignorance Is Strength in 2024. Alongside these albums, his catalogue includes records for Klockworks, Electric Deluxe, Clergy, ARTS and Soma, as well as his own imprint. His 2018 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and recorded festival sets form another part of that output. The Sphinx EP followed in 2026. His label work and solo productions connect the development of his recorded sound with the long-form DJ sets for which he is known.
