Dr. Chaii is the artist name of Philip “Pip” Kembo, a Zimbabwe-born songwriter, record producer and performing artist based in Los Angeles. He began making beats as a teenager after discovering FL Studio and developed a production language centered on infectious rhythms, melodic hooks and vivid Afrobeat, house and pop textures. His writing and production credits include collaborations with Sean Paul and Dua Lipa on “No Lie,” Pitbull, J Balvin and Camila Cabello on “Hey Ma,” as well as work with Chris Brown, Jason Derulo, Trey Songz and other international artists. Alongside studio work, he releases music under the Dr. Chaii name, with songs such as “Jackie Chan,” “Bongo,” “MC Hammer,” “Enjoyment Only,” “Sola,” “Focus” and “Too Much” connecting Afrobeats, afro house and contemporary electronic dance music. He has also worked with Zimbabwean vocalist and producer Bantu, including the Coming to America project and later collaborative singles. Dr. Chaii’s solo catalogue and DJ mixes present a producer who treats rhythm as a meeting point between African heritage, global club energy and pop songwriting. His creative identity is deliberately open: a studio craftsman, vocalist, selector and collaborator who can move from a stripped-back groove to a wide-screen festival arrangement while keeping the pulse human and direct.
