About
The sound
Fumiya Tanaka is a Japanese DJ and electronic musician whose work connects record selection, production and collaboration. He founded Torema Records in 1993 and released I Am Not a DJ through Sony in 1995. After years of touring from Japan, he moved to Berlin in 2010. His approach to DJing centres on the relationship between records, the sound system and the people in the room, allowing the direction of a set to develop in response to the dancefloor. His recordings include Unknown Possibility Vol. 1, the Osaka-recorded Mix Up Vol. 4 and the Perlon album Right Moment. In 2005 he started op.disc with Yoshihiro Hanno, followed by his Sundance label in 2008. He also works as Karafuto, while Karafuto presents Individual Orchestra brings acoustic instruments and players into his practice. Alongside his records, the film Via explores the thinking involved in choosing and playing music.
