G33 (from Girls Don't Sync)

About

The sound

G33 is Gaia Ahuja, a Brixton-born DJ based in Liverpool and a member of Girls Don't Sync. Her selections connect UK bass music with influences from her South Asian background and South London upbringing. Alongside appearances on BBC Asian Network and Rinse, teaching and mentoring aspiring DJs form part of her work. Her route into Girls Don't Sync grew through Liverpool's music community. After moving back to the city, she promoted at 24 Kitchen Street and worked with a youth club in Toxteth, meeting the people who would become her collaborators through those connections. The collective developed from local performances into shows further afield. In a 2024 guest lecture, she described that development alongside the importance of representation and creating opportunities for women and marginalised genders in dance music.
