About

The sound

George Apergis is an Athens DJ, producer and visual designer who also records as EMEX. His work joins vinyl DJing with techno production and the Modular Expansion events and record label he founded.

Modular Expansion grew from Athens techno parties, with the event project active since 1998. The record label later became an outlet for his own music and releases by artists including Mikael Delta, Nadja Lind, Brian Sanhaji and Radial. He began the EMEX project in 2014, alongside work released through Konsequent, Denude and SYXT.

Retrograde EP, released in June 2023, brought together its italo-influenced title track with Rave On and Sleeping With Headphones, two productions originally made in 2005, and Back Forward. His catalogue also includes Waxtrax and the 2024 Triton EP, with remixes by Axel Karakasis and Alexander Kowalski.

He connects music with visual art through record covers and projects such as Touch Infinity, which developed a spiral concept across sound, ceramic design and a film by Alkistis Kafetzi. His commitment to vinyl also reflects his interest in collecting, the physical process of mixing and the detail heard in a record. His DJ history includes Berghain and Tresor.
