About
Ghetto Kumbé is a Colombian live trio from Bogotá whose music turns Afro-Colombian percussion and Caribbean rhythm into an electronic, communal ritual. The group brings together Juan Carlos Chongo Puello on alegre drum and vocals, Edgardo Guajiro Garcés on beats and vocals, and Andrés Eduardo Doctor Keyta Mercado on African drums. Raised on Colombia's Caribbean coast and united in the capital, the three musicians connect local traditions with electronic production, bass weight and a futuristic sense of space. Their sound draws on the polyrhythms of cumbia and other coastal forms, the legacy of West African percussion, and the deep physical movement of house music. Hand drums, gaita-related color, voices and synthetic textures share equal importance, so each arrangement feels both ancestral and forward-looking. The group's early recordings, including Chila Kilé, Eso No Me Falla and the Kumbé EP, established an identity built around rhythm and atmosphere. Their self-titled debut album and later releases such as Soy Selva, Candelaria, Se Fué and Wayakana expand that world through vocal chants, layered percussion and collaborations. Remixes by artists including DJ Firmeza, Cero39, Montoya and Nickodemus show how naturally the project travels between live instrumentation and club production. Ghetto Kumbé's performances are immersive rather than conventional DJ sets: the musicians play, sing and drive the pulse in real time, inviting audiences into a shared dance rather than presenting a fixed selection. The project's Afro-futurist character keeps Colombian heritage at the centre while opening a conversation with global electronic culture.
