About
Gok Wan is a British DJ, presenter, fashion creative and producer whose club work grew out of a lifelong love of house music and communal celebration. Born Kowkhyn Wan in Leicester in 1974, he first became widely known through fashion and television, but music has remained a parallel thread in his creative life. During lockdown he turned that passion into Isolation Nation, broadcasting DJ sets from his kitchen and building an online audience around uplifting house, disco and club classics. The project’s emphasis on inclusivity, connection and joy carried into live shows and a wider touring practice after venues reopened. As a selector, Wan favors soulful, vocal-led and high-energy house, but his sets also draw on disco, nostalgic club anthems and crossover records that keep a room singing as well as dancing. His recorded work includes the Defected compilation Gok Wan Presents Isolation Nation, a second volume, the singles Right Direction and All Night Long, a reworking of Baby D’s Let Me Be Your Fantasy with Craig Knight and Kele Le Roc, and the later charity release Deeper Love with House Gospel Choir. In addition to his own releases, he has curated mixes and music programs that connect pop memory to contemporary dance production. Wan’s DJ practice has taken him from livestreams into packed UK venues, festivals and international club rooms, including Ibiza, while his media work continues alongside the music. The same qualities that shape his public work—warmth, humor, accessibility and a talent for making people feel seen—also shape his approach behind the decks. He treats a set as a shared space rather than a performance at a distance, using familiar hooks, joyful momentum and emotional lift to welcome a broad audience into house culture. Gok Wan’s career therefore spans television, fashion and music without reducing any of them to a side project: the DJ identity is a genuine, ongoing part of his creative life.
