Grace Jones

About

The sound

Grace Jones is a Jamaican-born singer, songwriter, performer, model and actor whose music connects disco, reggae, funk and electronic production. Her recording career began with Portfolio, followed by Fame and Muse. With Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing and Living My Life, she developed a different sound at Compass Point, working with producers Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin and the Compass Point All Stars. That period brought her interpretations of “Nightclubbing” and “Love Is the Drug,” alongside songs such as “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “My Jamaican Guy.” Later projects include the Trevor Horn-produced Slave to the Rhythm, Inside Story with Nile Rodgers, and Hurricane. Her catalogue spans reworked songs and original material, with her distinctive vocal delivery linking those different musical settings.
