HNRO is a French-born, South East London-based producer and musician whose work moves between internet club culture, left-field electronics and the restless energy of the underground rap scene. He began releasing and collaborating in the mid-2010s, joining Merci Jitter, the imprint founded by close collaborator Daniel Ness, and using that platform to develop a sound that is curious rather than easily classified. HNRO's catalogue draws on sharp drum programming, digital textures, clipped vocal fragments and melodic ideas that can feel playful, anxious or deliberately unresolved. The records are built for movement, but they also leave room for eccentric detail and the loose social feeling of an online community. His collaborative circle includes Ryoko Virgil, Kibo, Lucy Tun and Jawnino, and his production credits extend into the French scene through work with Lala &ce and Winnterzuko. Support from DJ Target, Jammz Supernova, Tash LC and Mo Ayoub on BBC Radio 1 Xtra, Kiss FM and NTS has connected those projects to a wider audience without smoothing away their underground character. Releases such as Unknown Endz, Dragonchild Static*, Distressed Dance Party, Puzzle Me with Daniel Ness, Wifey, Loneliest Time and the Road to Ryoko! EP show an artist treating each project as a new set of questions. Club sans cible, his debut EP for the Club Sensible imprint, gathers that exploration into a focused release, balancing hybrid rhythms, elastic bass and vocal-led passages with a deliberately open shape. HNRO also appeared on Promesses Vol. 2, a compilation that placed his work alongside Brodinski, Slikback and BEARCAT and brought further radio support. The alias has a parallel life in the room: Resident Advisor records HNRO playing London club nights and presents him as a DJ profile, while the artist's SoundCloud page documents remixes, mixes and original tracks under the same name. This link between production and selection is central to the project; HNRO approaches a set like another form of editing, shifting between tempos and textures while preserving a distinct emotional edge. His writing often embraces uncertainty, but the music is not vague. It uses contrast—hard percussion against fragile melody, synthetic surfaces against human voices, internet speed against a measured groove—to make a space where disparate scenes can meet. With new singles such as BBIK and BLINK (twenty-five) extending the recent catalogue, HNRO continues to build a London-rooted practice that is collaborative, genre-fluid and committed to finding fresh shapes for club music.
