About

The sound

Hunee is the artist name of Hun Choi, a DJ and producer whose musical identity was shaped between Bochum and Berlin. He grew up in Bochum in a culturally active family with South Korean parents, then moved to Berlin soon after finishing school to study, work in record shops and spend long hours digging for music. That relationship with records remains central to his practice: the booth is a place for discovery, but also for conversation with the dance floor, with sets that move across decades and regions rather than staying inside one narrow genre. His selections draw on disco, deep house, soul, jazz, dub and the deeper, jackin’ side of house, allowing rough percussion, warm bass and unexpected turns to sit together without losing a clear groove. He treats each set as a distinct journey, whether he is playing an intimate room or a festival stage. His productions extend that same breadth. Hunee has released music through Rush Hour, W.T. Records and Future Times, and the Lifetones label and platform gives his wider musical vision a community-focused home. The catalogue combines colorful house records with a strong sense of funk, soul and dancefloor heritage, while his DJ work keeps the emphasis on movement and emotional connection. Berlin remains an important base for his work, but the project has grown through international clubs, festivals, radio mixes and long-form sets. His approach draws on the history of dance music through a continuing practice of finding and playing records.
