Huxley is the stage name of British DJ and producer Michael Dodman, an artist whose sound grew out of UK garage before opening into deeper house, techno and other club forms. He started making music in his late teens and first built attention through a run of sharply programmed garage records, then developed a warmer, bass-led house language without losing the swing and rhythmic snap of his beginnings. His catalogue includes the breakthrough single Let It Go, Inkwell, Bellywedge, The Machine, Blurred, Closer, All About Us and the Pinball Skizzard and A Day Trip To The Valley EPs. Releases have appeared through Hypercolour, Aus Music, Tsuba, Morris Audio, Fear of Flying, 20:20 Vision, Defected, Rinse and other labels, while his own Saints & Sonnets imprint provided a home for deeper collaborative work. Huxley has worked with Sam Russo and Ethyl and has also released under aliases including Hux, Martinet, HXU, Dezz Jones and Huxley Donedidit, using each name to explore a slightly different corner of the dancefloor. The music can move from chunky garage swing to deep, soulful house, minimal tech-house pressure and tougher techno passages, often keeping the low end and drum programming firmly in focus. His DJ sets are similarly open-ended, joining house, garage and techno with a playful sense of discovery rather than a fixed formula. That flexibility has taken him through clubs, radio mixes and festivals in the United Kingdom and abroad, with Ibiza appearing among the places where his records and sets have found a natural audience. Huxley’s work is defined by groove, curiosity and a willingness to change shape while keeping the physical connection to the room intact. Across productions, remixes and long-form selections, Michael Dodman continues to make club music that is informed by UK roots but comfortable moving through a much wider electronic spectrum.
