About

The sound

Ian Van Dahl is the Belgian vocal-trance project formed in 2000 around producers Christophe Chantzis and Erik Vanspauwen. “Castles in the Sky,” originally recorded with Marsha, the singer Martine Theeuwen, introduced the project’s combination of electronic production and a prominent vocal melody. Annemie Coenen, also known as AnneMie, subsequently recorded and performed with the project. Its debut album A.C.E. included the singles “Will I” and “Reason,” while Lost & Found followed in 2004. Later production credits also brought in Peter Luts and David Vervoort. The music released under Ian Van Dahl spans these successive collaborations between singers and producers. Alongside the best-known early singles, its catalogue includes “Inspiration,” “Movin On” and “Just a Girl,” extending the project’s vocal-led dance sound beyond its debut recordings.
