Inner City

About

The sound

Inner City is the Detroit electronic group formed by Kevin Saunderson and vocalist Paris Grey in 1987. Saunderson brought vocals into the rhythmic language of Detroit techno, drawing inspiration from the extended DJ sets of Ron Hardy and Larry Levan. Big Fun and Good Life, released in 1988, carried that combination of electronic production and melodic songwriting into clubs and radio. Their debut album Paradise was followed by songs including Ain't Nobody Better, Do You Love What You Feel and Pennies From Heaven, the latter featuring Ann Saunderson. Releases continued through KMS and Virgin's 10 Records during the 1990s. The project returned to live performance in the early 2010s; later recordings included Bad Girl in 2014 and Good Luck in 2017, with Dantiez Saunderson joining the group's production work.
