JakoJako is the stage name of Berlin-based Turkish-German artist Sibel Koçer, a DJ, live performer and composer whose work treats the synthesizer as both instrument and language. Her practice began with an intense curiosity about sound: years spent reading manuals, experimenting with a DIY instrument and collecting Eurorack modules led to a tactile studio method in which timbre, modulation and movement are shaped by hand. Before committing fully to music, Koçer worked at Berlin’s SchneidersLaden, the specialist shop that became a meeting point for the city’s electronic musicians. That technical grounding never replaces feeling; it gives her a way to turn tiny changes in pitch, texture and pulse into an emotional arc. JakoJako’s performances can move from sparse ambient passages to driving, hypnotic techno, with live manipulation and DJ selection sharing the same attention to detail. She is a resident of Berghain and has appeared at venues and festivals including Dekmantel, Awakenings, Elevate, WHOLE and the Royal Albert Hall, where a live collaboration with Bonobo brought the modular approach into a very different setting. Her catalogue traces the same range. Metamorphose introduced a melodic, machine-shaped world, while IN VERE, made with Rødhåd, connected her sound to a broader techno conversation. Atlas der Gedanken with Mareena explored collaborative atmospheres, and Segmente, Äon, Modus and Metal Goat each isolate another side of her electronic vocabulary. Her 2025 album Tết 41, released through Mute and inspired by time spent in Vietnam, uses Vietnamese titles and a restrained hardware setup to make ambient space feel as physical as a club system. Remixes for Martin Gore and New Order, appearances on Tresor and other respected labels, and a steady stream of live and DJ recordings have made JakoJako one of Berlin’s most distinctive modular voices. The music is detailed without being precious: low frequencies can grind, tones can bloom, and rhythm can arrive gradually before locking into a room. JakoJako’s strength is the ability to hold those contrasts together, making sound that is technically exact but open to mystery. Across records, collaborative projects and long-form sets, Sibel Koçer continues to show how a deep knowledge of machines can create music that feels organic, intimate and alive.
