About
JNJS is the Ibiza-based DJ and production duo formed by Jay Nortown and Jacobo Saavedra. The pair came from different musical routes—Nortown through urban and hip-hop culture and years of island club experience, Saavedra through conservatory study, instruments and a later immersion in Ibiza’s minimal-house scene—but their shared project treats the duo as one equal unit. Their sound is deliberately difficult to file: stripped-back house, micro-detail, rolling low end and adventurous selections can sit beside higher-energy passages without losing the sense of a continuous groove. JNJS built its reputation through Circoloco at DC10 and a wider network of clubs and crews including Slapfunk, Les Enfants, Friedas and Why?Not, with appearances in Europe, Marrakech, Zanzibar and beyond. Their productions have been played by Raresh, Magda, Enzo Siragussa, Traumer, Priku and other selectors associated with the minimal-house world. Releases have appeared on UVAR, After Caposile, Slacker, Politics of Dancing, Pirka and related imprints, while the duo’s own Velvet label has issued vinyl and digital work from artists such as Silverlining, Triptil, iO Mulen and Alexis Cabrera. In the studio, their music balances patient arrangement with details that reward a loud system: elastic bass, carefully placed percussion and small shifts that change the room’s temperature. JNJS continue to develop the project from Ibiza, moving between DJ sets, radio work, label curation and new records while keeping the partnership’s equal, exploratory character intact.
