About
John Morales is a Bronx-born DJ, producer and remixer whose editing work helped shape the language of disco and house music. His own biography describes a career that moved from New York rooms including Stardust Ballroom, Limelight and Studio 54 into a studio practice built around extending records for the dance floor. In 1982 he partnered with Sergio Munzibai, forming the M+M team; together they crafted medleys and remixes for artists such as the Fantastic Aleems, Class Action, Jocelyn Brown, DeBarge, Shakatak, Miami Sound Machine and The Temptations. The partnership placed Morales’ musical ear at the centre of a vast body of dance-oriented releases, while Munzibai handled artist relations and promotion. After Munzibai’s death in 1991, Morales continued as a solo producer, mixer and DJ, developing the M+M Mixes name through compilations and new edits. Stones Throw’s account of the project describes the practical origins of his sound: long before digital workstations, he used cassette and reel-to-reel equipment to build longer, more dynamic versions of records for crowded floors. His catalogue now spans disco, boogie, soul and house, with projects for BBE Music, Quantize and his own M+M Mix Productions. Apple Music lists his mix compilations, recent remix releases and a Live at Hï Ibiza: Glitterbox DJ mix, while Boiler Room preserves a London set that shows the same instinct for warm vocals, patient transitions and deep rhythmic lift.
