About
The sound
Jorja Smith is a vocalist and songwriter raised in Walsall, England, whose music moves between R&B, soul, jazz, garage and electronic production. Early songs including “Blue Lights” and “Where Did I Go?” introduced a writing voice attentive to place, social pressure and intimate relationships. Her debut album Lost & Found established that approach across acoustic and electronic settings. Be Right Back followed in 2021, before falling or flying in September 2023 broadened her sound further. In April 2024 she announced falling or flying (reimagined), a project revisiting songs from that album with her band in more stripped-back arrangements. Smith's work remains centred on songwriting and vocal performance. Her live shows translate the detail of the studio recordings into a band-led setting, carrying the songs through the interplay between her voice and the musicians around her.
