About

The sound

Joss Dean is a London DJ and producer working across deep house, tech house and stripped-back club music. His interest developed through house parties with friends, where he began paying attention to how particular tracks changed the room. Practice sessions and experimenting with different records helped him build a style centred on groove, bass and gradual changes in energy. His releases include Was I Loved? on Dansu Discs, The People’s Rhythm on neXup recz and GANGSTA on Insomniac. The Dub Mix of Was I Loved? places greater emphasis on drums and low-end movement, continuing the minimal, hypnotic side of his sound. His DJ career has included appearances at XOYO, Drumsheds and The Warehouse Project. In discussing his early development, Dean has emphasised patient selection and letting a groove develop instead of rushing towards the biggest moment.
