Kapuchon is the club-focused alias of Dutch DJ and producer Nick van de Wall, the artist widely known as Afrojack. The project gives van de Wall a separate space for the tougher, more stripped-back house and techno ideas that sit outside the large-scale festival sound associated with his principal name. Its roots reach to the opening years of his recording career: Kapuchon appeared alongside Rotterdam selector Benny Rodrigues on the 2009 release Reel, establishing the alias as part of van de Wall's catalogue rather than a later namesake. After a long quiet period, he formally revived the project with 10 Years Later in 2020 and used it to return to groove-led club production without treating the music as an extension of Afrojack's pop collaborations. WALL Recordings documents Kapuchon as his techno alias and records a dedicated Tomorrowland performance under the name, while van de Wall's own official video channel presents extended Kapuchon sets as a distinct performance format. The renewed catalogue includes Trouble with Chico Rose, Ey and Turn Up The Bass with Sven Fields, and Work, a collaboration with Fields that received a Loco Dice remix. Those releases place the project across tech house and techno-adjacent territory, with tight percussion, bass-driven arrangements and fewer of the vocal and main-stage signals attached to Afrojack. Activity continued in 2026 through Secret Moves and Hot Sauce with Miss Monique and GLZ, showing that Kapuchon remains a current recording identity rather than an archival alias. The project therefore represents a deliberate second lane in van de Wall's work: the same experienced DJ and studio producer, but with a narrower focus on functional club records, extended mixing and late-night dance-floor pressure.
