Kasango

About

The sound

Kasango is the South African DJ and producer Kasmario Thulani Ike Fankis, from Welkom in the Free State. He discovered house music at sixteen, listening widely across its different forms and following South African DJs whose work travelled internationally. Seeing Black Coffee play in his hometown in 2009 helped turn that interest into a decision to become a DJ himself. His debut release One Night, featuring Jamie Fallon Smith, appeared in Black Coffee’s 2019 Appreciation Mix. Osama, made with Zakes Bantwini, then brought his music to a wider audience and received Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune selection on BBC Radio 1. Tong later selected Kasango’s remix of London group TMPLE in November 2024. These releases chart the growth of a producer whose melodic Afro-house work remains connected to the South African house culture in which he began.
