KATHY BROWN

About

The sound

Kathy Brown is an American house and dance vocalist whose musical beginnings were in a South Carolina gospel choir. Listening to Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle helped shape a voice that draws on both gospel and R&B. After joining the contemporary R&B group Sweet Cinnamon, she met New York producer Dave Shaw and began the collaborations that brought her into house music. Turn Me On (Turn Me Out) became a defining recording in that transition; a subsequent Praxis version was released as Turn Me Out (Turn to Sugar). Her wider catalogue includes Can’t Play Around, Stronger on My Own, Joy and Get Another Love. She has worked with producers including David Morales, The Layabouts and Ron Carroll, as well as returning to Shaw and Deep Influence for Feel the Music and Love and Pain.
