Kaz James

About

The sound

Kaz James is an Australian DJ and producer whose musical background includes jazz, rare groove and house. Growing up in Melbourne, he discovered jazz, rare groove and house through his stepfather’s record collection; reading about Carl Cox helped him decide to become a DJ. A bootleg of Sweet Dreams brought early attention from Pete Tong and Erick Morillo, opening another stage of his production career. His studio work has included productions for Kelis and Macy Gray, collaborations with DJ Tennis and Guy Gerber, and releases through labels such as Saved, Objektivity and Circus. His house catalogue includes Stronger, Arizona, Trip the Light and Twisted with Nick Morgan. Across those collaborations and records, his work connects the record-collecting background of a DJ with the arrangement and songwriting demands of producing for other artists.
