About

The sound

Kerri Chandler is a New Jersey DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist whose deep house music draws on soul, jazz and funk. His interest in recording equipment and sound systems developed alongside his musical practice, bringing an engineer’s attention to the relationship between a record and the room in which it is played. His 1991 Atlantic release Super Lover / Get It Off marked an early step in a catalogue that includes both club records and larger projects. For Spaces and Places, he recorded 24 tracks in 24 clubs around the world, using each room and sound system as part of the creative process. His performances have incorporated keyboards, reel-to-reel machines and live experimentation. Through labels including MadTech and Kaoz Theory, he has also created outlets for other producers, extending his work from the studio and DJ booth into developing new music.
