KIROLLUS

About

The sound

KIROLLUS is a DJ whose record collection centres on boogie, soul and funk, with vinyl at the heart of his practice. An early interest in hip-hop and sample digging led him towards the records behind the samples, broadening his listening into seventies soul, rare groove and eighties dance music. Time spent around Brighton’s Uptight Records helped develop that approach to collecting and selection. Radio became an important outlet during lockdown, and his work with Defected Broadcasting brought his music selections to a wider audience. His sets draw on the connection between soul songwriting, bass-driven funk and the movement of a dancefloor. His shared recordings include a six-hour vinyl set from Badaboum in Paris, a BRET session with Tonno Disko and a Lost Village recording. These longer sets document a DJ practice built around detailed selection and the range of his collection.
