Kristin Velvet is an Australian DJ and producer whose career developed through several different music scenes. She began working as a DJ and promoter in Tokyo, spent time around London’s clubs and later worked as a label manager for Domino Records in Sydney. Those experiences preceded her involvement in Berlin’s house and techno scene. Her recording work is closely connected with Arms & Legs, the label she runs with Daniel Steinberg. Releases have also appeared on Founders of Filth, Knee Deep in Sound and Kwench. Cats Love Velvet, her collaborative project with Felix Da Housecat, extends that catalogue through a series of jointly made EPs. Her remix credits include Jesse Saunders and Paul Mac, while Louie Vega, Cari Lekebusch and Mark Broom have reinterpreted her own productions. Tracks such as The Traveller, We Don’t Stop and Build That Beat document a sound shaped by house and techno, with rhythmic momentum and a broad approach to selecting records carrying through into her DJ sets.
