Lee Ann Roberts is a South African-born, Amsterdam-based DJ, producer and label founder working in hard techno. Her artist biography traces an entry into electronic music through Cape Town radio, where she hosted a show on Mutha FM before moving to Los Angeles and becoming connected with AVALON. MusicTech's interview adds the production history behind that transition: while modelling allowed her to travel, she studied at Garnish Music School, learned with DJ Rap and assembled a small studio in which to develop her own records. Roberts now combines forceful percussion and high-tempo structures with more subtle shifts of tone, drawing on both South African musical memory and the energy of rock and psytrance. Her NowNow label gives that material an independent release platform and a name drawn from a South African expression for immediacy.
