About

The sound

LI-YU is the Dutch house DJ Leonie Tan. Growing up in Twente before moving to Rotterdam to study, she developed her interest in selection by making playlists for friends. Encouragement from Armand Blahowetz of Rhythm Import helped turn that habit into a DJ practice. Her musical interests centre on the warmth and rhythmic detail of 1990s deep house, with soul records and vinyl digging informing the way she builds a set. Kerri Chandler has been a particular influence on her understanding of house music. Her performances have included BRET, Thuishaven and Toffler, alongside recorded appearances for HÖR and Operator.
