LICA

About

The sound

LICA is the Estonian DJ and producer Ilona Russanova. Her early listening centred on drum and bass before opening into indie dance, techno and melodic electronic music. Broken rhythms remain part of that range, alongside music designed for a more continuous club groove. Her first EP, The Wild Awakes, was released in August 2022. The project brought together her interest in production and personal writing: the track Time grew from poems she had written. Describing her studio process, she has explained that musical ideas often begin as melodies in her head before she develops them into a recording. Alongside original productions, she shares DJ recordings through her LICA channels, including the Find Your Way mix series. Her work connects that broad listening background with both longer selections and individually composed tracks.
