Major League DJz

About

The sound

Major League DJz are the South African twin brothers Bandile and Banele Mbere. Their work connects DJ performance, production and the Balcony Mix series, which helped bring their approach to amapiano to listeners beyond South Africa. Their recordings include Come With Me featuring Jorja Smith. In 2023, they joined Major Lazer for the album Piano Republik. Banele described the collaboration as growing from Diplo’s interest in their Balcony mixes during lockdown and subsequent time together in Los Angeles. The project brought South African musicians and international vocalists into the same recording process, with contributors including Msaki, Tyla, Tiwa Savage and Ty Dolla $ign. Work on the Ty Dolla $ign songs took place in Los Angeles and London. Their later catalogue includes Body On Body, Slips Away and One More Dance featuring Mpho.Wav and Atmos Blaq, released in 2026.
