Masters At Work is the New York production partnership founded in 1990 by Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez. Their recordings combine house with hip-hop, funk, disco, Latin music and jazz, often bringing live players and singers into sampled and programmed arrangements. The Album appeared in 1993. Under the related Nuyorican Soul name, the pair released The Nervous Track before making the self-titled 1997 album with contributors including Roy Ayers, Eddie Palmieri and Jocelyn Brown. Our Time Is Coming continued that collaborative approach with guests including Patti Austin, James Ingram and Roy Ayers. Their remix work extends from Saint Etienne’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart to Daft Punk’s Around the World, alongside productions and remixes for other vocalists and groups. Their own catalogue also includes Nightmovin’ Track, MAW Hop, Our Darkness and the paired Circus Jazz and Frankie’s Trip release, alongside longer album projects and their work under Nuyorican Soul.
