About

The sound

Melvo Baptiste is a DJ, broadcaster, producer and label founder whose selections connect soul, funk, disco and house. Radio became a central part of his musical development: he spent about seven years presenting a weekly show on Mi-Soul, championing contemporary British soul alongside older recordings. His experience around the Good Times sound system also shaped an approach in which selection and changes of mood matter as much as beat matching. He began playing for Glitterbox in London in 2016 and proposed its radio show, which launched the following year. Through that programme he interviewed artists including George Benson, Kathy Sledge and Gilles Peterson. In 2021 he launched The Remedy Project under Defected, extending his interest in contemporary soul, live instrumentation and songcraft. Its releases have included work by Hadiya George, Jitwam, Donae’o and Terri Walker. His own production work includes Sweat for Glitterbox Recordings and a remix of City, the collaboration between Omar and Joss Stone.
