About
The sound
Nightmares on Wax is the recording project of George Evelyn, also known as DJ E.A.S.E. His Warp catalogue reaches from A Word of Science in 1991 through Smokers Delight, Carboot Soul and In A Space Outta Sound, drawing together sample-based production with soul, hip-hop, roots and dub. Shout Out! To Freedom and the 2025 Echo45 Sound System continue that approach, with Echo45 bringing collaborators including Yasiin Bey, Greentea Peng, Sadie Walker and Liam Bailey into a sound-system-inspired mixtape. The twentieth anniversary of In A Space Outta Sound introduced another way of hearing the 2006 album: Adrian Sherwood reconstructed eight tracks for In A Space Outta Dub. Evelyn also developed new live arrangements with music director Mike Lesirge. Recorded at Abbey Road Studio Two in May 2026, In A Space Outta Soul presents new versions of You Wish and Damn with a full band, gospel choir, strings and horns. Mozez Wright and Chyna B provide the respective lead vocals, connecting familiar recordings with a larger ensemble sound.
