About
The sound
ONYVAA is a DJ, producer and live electronic performer raised in California whose music draws on Detroit techno, house and early warehouse sounds. After moving into Europe’s club circuit, she developed a practice that connects DJ sets with performances built around modular synthesizers. Repeating synth patterns, substantial drums and field recordings give her productions a sound rooted in both electronic equipment and sounds collected outside the studio. She founded Passeport Records as an outlet for her own music, releasing on vinyl and digitally. Her catalogue also includes work for Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 and Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT, while her performance history encompasses Fabric in London and Rex Club in Paris. In 2020, her agency documented a live opening set for Hawtin’s CLOSE show at the Hollywood Palladium.
